!History: Van Tassel Martling papers say "he was granted a pension 17 Apr 1818. In his application, he stated that he enlisted in Capt Schaffer's company in Oct 1777 and continued in service until discharged at Charleston , SC., May 1783. He married Freena Romer "sometime in 1782." They were married by James Roqua, justice of the peace. In 1786 he bought from the Commissioners of Forfaitures the 65 acre leasehold on the County House or White Plains Road formerly held by his grandfather Hick. ! |
