From a talk given by Henry C. Esplin at the Esplin Reunion in St. George, June 14, 1953

I am grateful for the privilege of meeting with the members of the Esplin family who are able to be here for this reunion. I extend greetings to you. I wish there could have been many more here, but the busy season and the many things we have to face in our every day life have prevented many from coming. We especially would have enjoyed having Aunt Clarissa with us, as the occasion is to be especially for her. Poor health and other things prevented her from making the long journey.
We feel that she is with us in her thoughts and we will pay honor to her. In recalling the past and associating her with it I find many noble things where she played her part that will be an everlasting joy and credit to her. Also there is the lighter side of life. She played her part well in that too. She was running over with joy and merriment.
When Clarissa was budding into young womanhood she directed her smiles toward the opposite sex. From a neighboring town it seems to take effect very soon. She was out with first one and then another, which wasn't at all to the wishes of her mother. So after a short time of flirting her mother began pleading with her not to be carried away in dreamland. Clarissa in self defense said, "Why, mother, you just do not understand how much fun it is, besides those boys have money in their pockets, and spend it on you. It is just wonderful!" Grandma's reply was, "If those boys would pay us for the melons, tomatoes and fruit that they take after dark, they wouldn't have so much money in their pocket." She added further, "you will fly high now but soon will fall and the lighting may not be pleasant." But after a short time of this high flying she began to descend toward the earth. It so happened that before she reached the ground Mell Luke appeared on the scene and caught her in his strong arms and they have lived happily ever since. They now have a wonderful family to honor their name.
