Note
|
Notes from the Sabin book on fiche page 25-26 says a Daniel Carpenter of Rehoboth mentions a Sam'l Sabin in a letter written on his way to Port Royal, Nova Scotia, "a member of the expedition to attack the French station there". It also quotes Mayflower Families saying Samuel lived on inherited land except for a small plot granted by the town of Rehoboth 17 Jan 1698/99. In a deed of 1719 he is called Samurl Sr. but when he sold in 1724 his name appeares without the suffix, indicating his son Samuel, Jr. had come of age by 1719, but probably was dead by 1724. On 18 May 1730 Samuel Sabin came before the Town Meeting of Rehoboth, 'informed them of his low circumstances and requested sum of money belonging to the poor of the town.' From then on, until their deaths, the town voted each year to expend several pounds for the maintenance and medical treatment of Samuel Sabin and his wife Grace. In Rehoboth at that time, such support payments were regarded as a debt owed to the town by the papuper's estate. Accordingly, in a deed after Samuel's death his widow Grace Sabin with Experience Robinson, Mary Sabin, and Patience Sabin , children of Samuel Sabin, all of Rehoboth:'wheras the town of Rehoboth on 17 Jan 1698/99 by vote did give Samuel Sabin 1/2 acre of the northeast side of Mill River, on which Samuel built a house and in which he dwelt until his death; and whereas there might arise some dispute that said land should descend to his heirs, considering what the town has done in providint for and maintaining him for divers past[years], do yield it up to said town...,' dated 17 Feb 1746/47. At that time Grace and her daughter Patience had been living with another family for five months at town expense, and the people of Rehoboth paid for the funeral and burial of widow Grace Sabin two months later." History! Rehoboth VR says 27 9mth 1664 !Conflict Titus says he married Ruth Read second and had son Elijah born 9 Feb 1722 |
