!Conflict: I think my papers had his name as Jan Cornelius von Thessel. !History: Van Tassel papers say that he came to America some time before 1624 and that he was an indentured servant to Hendrick Harmensen for 7 years. They also say "born about 1600 on the Isle of Texel, North Holland. Sometime after his arrival to North America, Wyandance, Sachem of Long Island, gave him his (Wyandance's) daughter, "Cantoneras", in marriage; she being one of the fourteen Indian women taken into captivity by Ninigret, Chief of the Narragansetts, and afterwards ransomed through the good offices of Lion Gardiner." ! |
