Hope in Christ

Hope is necessary to receive exaltation

Without hope we can not receive an inheritance in the mansions of the Father, Ether 12:32. We have hope in Christ in this life and in the next, 1 Corinthians 15:19-22. By hope we can enter into the rest of the Lord, Moroni 7:1-3.

"Hope deferred maketh the heart sick," Proverbs 13:12.

Hope gives us the ability to stay on the path

We need to have a "perfect brightness of hope" as we travel the straight and narrow path, 2 Nephi 31:19-21. We need to have hope so that we don't end up in despair, Moroni 10:19-22. We are to have the hope of Christ in our daily labors, 1 Corinthians 9:10. We have hope in our callings, Ephesians 4:3-6.

We are saved by hope, but we have to have patience in waiting for it, Romans 8:23-25. If we suffer for righteousness we can still be happy because of our hope in Christ, 1 Peter 3:14-16. Because of the love of God we can have hope in tribulations, Romans 5:3-5. We suffer at the present time, but have hope in Christ, Romans 8:16-22. We need to be patience and have hope that one day we will rest from our afflictions, Alma 34:40-41.

Paul had trust that the Lord would deliver him, 2 Corinthians 1:8-10 and he had hope in eternal life, Titus 1:1-2. We have hope that we will receive eternal life, Alma 13:27-29.

We rejoice and hope in Christ, Hebrews 3:6-8. Jesus Christ is our hope, 1 Timothy 1:1.

Abraham had hope in the promise he would be the father of many nations even though it seemed impossible, Romans 4:18-21.

David had hope in the Lord, Psalm 38:15. Many of the Psalms talk about hope in God, Psalm 42:8-11 and Psalm 43:4-5. We have hope in the Lord's mercy, Psalm 33:18-22. "The expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever," Psalm 9:18.

The Nephites had a hope in Christ long before He was born, Jacob 4:3-4.

Those that have hope are blessed

Blessed is the man whose hope is in the Lord, Jeremiah 17:7-8. "The hope of the righteous shall be gladness," Proverbs 10:28. The God of hope will fill us with joy and peace, Romans 15:12-13. The Holy Ghost fills our souls with hope, Moroni 8:25-26.

Paul preached about the hope of salvation as a helmet, 1 Thessalonians 5:8-9. Hope is an anchor for the soul, Hebrews 6:17-20.

At the second coming the Lord will be the hope of his people, Joel 3:15-17. Heavenly messengers confirm our hope in what is to come, D&C 128:21. The members of the Church rejoice in hope, Romans 12:10-12.

We have hope through the scriptures, Romans 15:4-6.

We have hope in the resurrection

The resurrection of Jesus Christ gives us faith and hope in God, 1 Peter 1:3-5 and 1 Peter 1:20-21. We have hope to be raised unto eternal life through Jesus Christ, Moroni 7:40-44 and Titus 3:7. The righteous have hope even when they die, Proverbs 14:32. I thought this might be talking about the death of Jesus, but the Spanish Bible seems to be referring more to the death of the righteous. The righteous spirits look forward to a glorious resurrection, D&C 42:44-47 and D&C 138:12-15.

David has hope in the resurrection, Psalm 16:9-11. On the day of Pentecost Peter also quoted this psalm, Acts 2:25-28.

The Pharisees had many false believes, but they did have hope in the resurrection, Acts 23:6.

Faith, hope, and charity

Faith, hope and charity qualify us for the work of the Lord, D&C 4:3-5. Faith, hope, and charity are often grouped together in the scriptures, 1 Corinthians 13:13, Alma 7:24, Ether 12:28 and Moroni 8:14. We hope all things, Articles of Faith 13. Oliver Cowdery is instructed to have faith, hope and charity, D&C 6:18-20. If we don't have faith, hope, and charity we wont be able to accomplish anything, D&C 18:17-19.

"If ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen," Alma 32:21 also Hebrews 11:1.. Hope comes through faith, Ether 12:4. We "wait for the hope of righteousness by faith," Galatians 5:5.

One of the names of the gospel is hope

Many of the scriptures listed in the Topical Guide under hope use hope as part of the name of the gospel. Seek for hope in Christ before seeking for riches, Jacob 2:18-19. Those that have hope in Jesus Christ are not of the world, 1 John 3:1-3.

Paul uses the hope of the gospel as the name of the gospel in his writings. In his defense before King Agrippa Paul reaffirms his hope in Jesus and in the resurrection, Acts 26:6-8. Paul taught of the hope of Israel in Rome, Acts 28:20. We need to be careful to not stray from the hope of the gospel, Colossians 1:23. We need to show diligence in the hope of the gospel, Hebrews 6:11-12.

Miscellaneous Scriptures on hope

The Lord saves, but those that are cast into the pit cannot have hope, Isaiah 38:16-18. The hypocrite is without hope in God, Job 27:8-10.

The children of Israel feel there is no hope, yet in the Lord there is always hope, Ezekiel 37:11-14.

"Chasten thy son while there is hope," Proverbs 19:18. We need to always maintain hope for our children.
