A pure heart is an important part of chastity, Psalm 24:4-5. "Blessed are the pure in heart," Matthew 5:8. We are to be pure as Christ was pure, 1 John 3:2-4.
"Be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the LORD," Isaiah 52:11-12 and D&C 38:42. "Strip yourselves of all uncleanness," Mormon 9:28-29. Virtue is one of the requirements for missionary work, D&C 4:4-6. Timothy as a bishop was to be an example of purity, 1 Timothy 4:12. The thirteenth article of faith talks about the good things we should be doing, Articles of Faith 13. We are to practice virtue and holiness before the Lord, D&C 46:33. The young women are taught to be chaste so as not to blaspheme the word of God, Titus 2:4-5.
Our bodies can be the temple of the Holy Ghost, 1 Corinthians 6:13-20. The Lord will not come into a defiled temple, D&C 97:15-17. We need to bring our bodies into subjection, 1 Corinthians 9:26-27. We are to "cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh," 2 Corinthians 7:1.
Pure religion includes keeping ourselves unspotted from the world, James 1:26-27. We need to put on the armor of God in these days of wickedness, Ephesians 6:11-12. "Let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly," D&C 121:45. Bad thoughts that come from the heart defile a man, Matthew 15:18-20. Do not keep company with the wicked, 1 Corinthians 5:9-11.
Any unclean thing can not be received into the kingdom of God, 1 Nephi 10:20-21 and Alma 7:21. Also see: Moses 6:57. The unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 and Ephesians 5:3-5.
Virtue is necessary for living in the celestial kingdom, D&C 88:38-40. In the last days the unclean shall not go into Zion, Isaiah 35:8-10. The thirteenth article of faith we are told we need to be chaste, Articles of Faith 1:13
People give up worldly ways when they join the Church including fornication, Colossians 3:5-7. The members of the church must abstain from fornication, 1 Thessalonians 4:2-6. The gentile converts don't need to live the law of Moses, but they do need to abstain from fornication, Acts 15:19-20 and Acts 21:25.
The story of Joseph and Potiphar's wife shows Joseph's determination to keep the law of chastity, Genesis 39:7-20.
Jacob is saddened because he must call the men to repentance in the presence of their chaste wives and children, Jacob 2:6-7. Jacob teaches the people that men should have only one wife, Jacob 2:27-35. Jacob warns the people about the consequences of sins like fornication and lasciviousness, Jacob 3:11-12.
Men are to leave their father and mother and become one with their wives, Genesis 2:24. Husbands and wives are to give due benevolence unto each other, 1 Corinthians 7:2-3. Couples should not divorce, Matthew 5:31-32, Matthew 19:4-9, 1 Corinthians 7:10-14 and 3 Nephi 12:31-32. Those that are not faithful to their spouses are to be excommunicated, D&C 42:74-77.
A virtuous woman is of value far above rubies, Proverbs 31:10-31. "A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband," Proverbs 12:4.
The seventh of the Ten Commandments is "Though Shalt Not Commit Adultery." The Ten Commandments are found numerous places in the scriptures and are in all the standard works of the Church except for the Pearl of Great Price. See Exodus 20:14, Deuteronomy 5:18, Mosiah 13:22 and D&C 42:22-26. The D&C version has additional information, for example verse 22 says "Thou shalt love thy wife ..." Alma teaches his son Corianton the importance of staying away from sexual sin, Alma 39:3-5. Other scriptures that command against adultery are: Matthew 19:18, Romans 13:9, Alma 16:18, Alma 23:3, Alma 30:10, Helaman 4:11-12 and D&C 59:6. Some of the works of the flesh are sexual sins, Galatians 5:16-21. Christ taught that you don't have to commit adultery to sin, lusting after a women is committing adultery in the heart, 3 Nephi 12:27-30 also Matthew 5:27-28 and D&C 63:16. Soloman warns his children about the strange women, Proverbs 7:5. "With her much fair speech she caused him to yield," Proverbs 7:21, "Her house is the way to hell," Proverbs 7:24.
What happened to Sodom and Gomorrha is an example of the punishment of the wicked, Jude 1:6-8.
Nephi warns the people they will be destroyed if they don't repent of their sins, including fornication, Helaman 8:26-27. Just before the Nephites were destroyed, the violation of chastity was one of the sins they were guilty of, Moroni 9:9-10.
One of the things the Children of Israel were guilty of in the wilderness was fornication, 1 Corinthians 10:5-11. Balaam advised the king of Moab to use women to entice the children of Israel to sin so they would not be blessed of the Lord, Numbers 31:16> and Joshua 22:17-18.
The scriptures use the figure of fornication of Israel with the world to symbolize Israel's unfaithfulness to the Lord, Revelation 14:8, Revelation 17:1-2, Revelation 18:3-5, Revelation 19:1-2, D&C 35:10-11 and D&C 88:93-94.
