Our Eternal Father

There are many more scriptures that mention the Father than the ones I have listed. Separating out scriptures that only refer to God the Father and not the Son is difficult because most of the time it really doesn't mater which you are referring to since they are one in purpose. Also many times the Son is talking but He is speaking as if He were the Father (divine investiture of authority). Most of the scriptures included here are from the "Guide to the Scriptures" and the "Topical Guide."

All of us are children of the most High

We were in the beginning with the Father and the Firstborn, Jesus Christ, D&C 93:21-23. God is the father of all spirits, Numbers 16:22, Numbers 27:15-16 and Malachi 2:10. God is the Father of all, Ephesians 4:6 and all of us are children of the most High, Psalm 82:6, Romans 8:14-17 and Acts 17:27-29.

There is a God in heaven who created man in His own image, D&C 20:17-18. We are sons of God, Galatians 4:5-7 and 1 John 3:1-3. We need to be willing to accept the correction of the Father of spirits, Hebrews 12:9.

The Father has a plan for us

If we keep the commandments we can receive of the fullness of the Father, D&C 93:19-20. Those that do the will of the Father will be saved, Matthew 7:21 and 3 Nephi 14:21. The doctrine of Christ is the doctrine of the Father, 2 Nephi 31:21 and 3 Nephi 11:35. Those that love the Father don't love the world, 1 John 2:15-16. Be perfect as your Father in Heaven, Matthew 5:48.

We pray unto the Father, Matthew 6:5-9, Luke 11:2 and 3 Nephi 13:5-9. We bow unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Ephesians 3:14. All that we ask the Father in the name of Christ will be given us, John 15:15-16 and John 16:23. We are to offer our sacraments unto the most high God, D&C 59:9-12.

We are to be merciful as our Father in Heaven is merciful, Luke 6:36. If we forgive our fellow men Heavenly Father will forgive us, Matthew 6:14-15, Mark 11:25-26, 3 Nephi 13:14-15 and Matthew 18:35.

"In my Father's house are many mansions," John 14:2. Jesus declared that the temple was His Father's house, John 2:14-16. Every good gift comes from the Father, James 1:17. We are eternally indebted to our heavenly Father, Mosiah 2:34. Heavenly Father takes care of His creations Matthew 6:26 and 3 Nephi 13:26.

The Father determines who will be greatest in His kingdom, Matthew 20:20-23.

We have fellowship with the Father, 1 John 1:2-3. We will find rest with the souls we bring to God in the kingdom of The Father, D&C 15:6. We are to let our light shine before men so they will glorify the Father, Matthew 5:16.

The Father will take care of His missionaries, D&C 84:82-84. Heavenly Father is aware of the earthly things we need, Matthew 6:31-32 and 3 Nephi 13:31-32. Jesus promises His disciples the promises of His Father, Luke 24:49.

In the second coming the Lord will come down from the presence of the Father in heaven to destroy the wicked, D&C 63:32-35.

Jesus is our advocate with The Father

God sent His Son into the world to save the world, John 3:16-17 and 1 John 4:14. God the Father has blessed us with the opportunity to be accepted in heaven through Jesus Christ, Ephesians 1:2-6. God the Father chose Christ to be the Savior, Abraham 3:27-28.

Christ will testify of our cleanliness before the Father, D&C 88:74-75. For the righteous Christ will "confess his name before my Father," Revelation 3:5. The Father has committed all judgment unto the Son, John 5:20-23. The Father will honor those who follow Christ, John 12:26-27.

Jesus Christ is our advocate with the Father, 1 John 2:1 and D&C 45:3-5. Through the Son we have access to the Father, Ephesians 2:18. Christ gathers together all those "whom my Father hath given me out of the world," D&C 27:13-14. The righteous are those that the Father has given Christ, D&C 84:61-63.

In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus prayed to the Father: "let this cup pass from me," Matthew 26:37-39 and Luke 22:41-42. Jesus lays down His life for the sheep, John 10:15-18.

Jesus asked His Father to forgive the people who were crucifying Him, Luke 23:34.

On the cross Jesus wondered why the Father left him to suffer alone, Mark 15:34. Earlier Jesus had said I am not alone because the Father is with Him, John 16:32. Since the Father had always been with Him it made it even harder on the cross when the Father did leave Him for a time.

The Father and the Son are one

The first Article of Faith states our belief in the Godhead, Articles of Faith 1:1. God the Father and Christ have physical bodies, D&C 130:22. There is only one God the Father and one Jesus Christ, 1 Corinthians 8:5-6. Jesus is the son of the Eternal Father, Romans 15:6-7 and 1 Nephi 11:21.

When we baptize someone it is in the name of the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost, 3 Nephi 11:25-27 and Matthew 28:19. Heavenly Father will give His children the Holy Spirit, Luke 11:11-13. The righteous will sing praises to the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Mormon 7:7. After the resurrection we will be brought to be judged of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Alma 11:44.

God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are one, John 17:21-23 and 3 Nephi 11:36. Jesus and the Father are one, John 10:29-30. Jesus tells us: "I am in the Father, and the Father in me," John 14:10-12, John 14:20 and D&C 93:3-5. As the Father called Jesus to go unto the world, Jesus called his apostles to go unto the world, John 20:20-21. We should strive to be one with each other as the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are one.

The Father is greater than the Son. That might not be true after the resurrection, John 14:28. Jesus says: "I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman," John 15:1. All things are delivered unto the Son from the Father, Matthew 11:25-27, John 16:15-16 and John 3:35. The glory of the Father was with Jesus, D&C 93:17-18 Christ is on the right hand of the Father in heaven, D&C 20:21-24. The Father has given to the Son to have life in himself, John 5:26-27.

Jesus tells the people that those who do the will of His Father are his mother and brothers, Matthew 12:49-50. Those that abide in the doctrine of Christ have both the Father and the Son to be with them, 2 John 1:9. Those that have seen Jesus have seen the Father, John 14:6-9. Jesus tell His followers that if they deny Him, He will deny them before the Father, Matthew 10:32-33.

Those that hate Jesus hate the Father also, John 15:23-24 and John 16:2-3.

Jesus tell the Jews that His Father is God, John 8:54. The Jews wanted to kill Jesus because he said that God was His father, John 5:17-19.

God is all powerful

The Lord is all powerful and all knowing, Alma 26:35. Nothing is too hard for the Lord, Genesis 18:13-14. God was the most intelligent of all the spirits, Abraham 3:19. The Lord knoweth all things, 2 Nephi 2:24 and D&C 88:41. Only the Father knows when the second coming will be, Matthew 24:36-39, Mark 13:32 and Joseph Smith—Matthew 1:40-43.

God is named Man of Holiness, Moses 6:57.

There is no where we can go to hide from the Lord, Psalm 139:7-12.

On a number of occasions the Father introduced His Son

The Father in Heaven bears record of the Son, 1 John 5:7-12. The Father is a witness of the Son, John 5:36-38 and John 8:16-18.

When Jesus was baptized the Father spoke from heaven, Matthew 3:16-17 and D&C 93:15-16. The father introduced his Son on the Mount of transfiguration, Matthew 17:1-6. The Father spoke from heaven glorifying Jesus, John 12:28-30. Peter gains a testimony of Jesus Christ through revelation from the Father, Matthew 16:15-17.

The Father introduced His Son to the Nephites in America, 3 Nephi 11:2-7.

In the first vision, The Father introduced His Son to Joseph Smith, Joseph Smith—History 1:16-17

The Father and the Son appear to man

The righteous can see the face of the Lord, D&C 93:1-2. The pure in heart will be able to bear His presence, D&C 76:116-118. The pure in heart are promised they shall see God, Matthew 5:8 and 3 Nephi 12:8.

God the father talked with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, Moses 4:14-31. As Stephen was being martyred he looked up and saw God the Father and Jesus Christ, Acts 7:54-56.

Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in the first vision, Joseph Smith—History 1:16-17 After Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery were baptized they were blessed with great blessing from their Heavenly Father, Joseph Smith—History 1:73. In a vision Joseph Smith saw in the Kirtland temple he saw The Father and the Son seated on a throne, D&C 137:3. Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon saw God the Father and Jesus Christ, D&C 76:19-24.

Joseph F. Smith saw a vision in which he saw the righteous who had hope in God the Father and the Son, D&C 138:14.

Jesus did all things under the direction of the Father

Jesus came from the Father and will go back to be with the Father, John 16:28. Jesus tells the people in America that He is fulfilling commandments given Him by the Father, 3 Nephi 18:26-27. When Jesus died on the cross He said: "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit," Luke 23:46-47. Christ accomplished all the work the Father gave Him, D&C 19:1-3 and always glorified the name of the Father, Ether 12:8.

From the beginning Jesus always wanted to do the Father's will, Moses 4:2. The things that Jesus taught came from the Father, John 12:49-50. Jesus came in His Father's name, John 5:43 and John 10:25. Jesus followed not his own will but the will of the Father, John 5:30, John 6:37-39 and John 8:26-29.

Miscellaneous Heavenly Father Scriptures

"Call no man your father upon the earth," Matthew 23:9.

When Jesus was 12 he stayed behind in the temple. This scripture contrasts an earthly fathers with a Heavenly Father, Luke 2:48-49.

Jesus tells Mary Magdalene: "Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father," John 20:17.

Melchizedek was a priest of the most high God, Genesis 14:18-20.

The Saints are to prepare a document detailing their persecutions to present before governments and Heavenly Father, D&C 123:6.
