Jesus Christ is Our Exemplar

Jesus selected His apostles and called them to follow him. Jesus called the fisherman Peter, Andrew, James, and John to follow Him, Matthew 4:18-22. Peter is instructed to follow the Lord, John 21:21-22.

In the Lord's Church we are to do the works that Christ did, 3 Nephi 27:21 and 3 Nephi 27:27. Jesus instructs the Nephites to observe the sacrament as He had shown them, 3 Nephi 18:6-7. After Jesus washed the apostles feet He told them to follow his example and wash each others feet, John 13:14-15.

We must follow the example of the Son of God to be saved, 2 Nephi 31:16-17. Jesus is the truth and the way, John 14:6-7. Jesus's sheep hear His voice and follow Him, John 10:27-29. Jesus tells us take up our cross and follow Him, Mark 8:34-37, Luke 9:23-25 and D&C 56:2-3.

Christ showed us how to have love for each other, 1 John 4:17-21. Christ left us an example of how to behave when we are reviled, 1 Peter 2:21-25. We are to walk in love and be followers of God, Ephesians 5:1-2.

We are to follow the perfect example of Jesus and the Father, 3 Nephi 12:48 and Matthew 5:48. Notice that in the Matthew version Jesus only commands them to be perfect as the Father, presumably because Jesus had not yet been glorified. We can become the sons of God and be one with the Father and the Son, D&C 35:2 and Moroni 7:48.

Jesus went through experiences similar to ours and can identify with our situations. Christ was also tempted so he has a feeling for out infirmities, Hebrews 4:13-16. Christ learned obedience by the things which He suffered, Hebrews 5:7-10.

The Rich young man is told to sell all that he has and follow Jesus, Mark 10:17-21.
