Nehemiah 9:1 Now in the twenty and fourth day
of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and
with sackclothes, and earth upon them.
2 And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers,
and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their
fathers.
3 And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law
of the LORD their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth
part they confessed, and worshipped the LORD their God.
Psalms 38:18 For I will declare mine
iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
Psalms 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will
not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins
shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have
mercy.
Isaiah 1:16 Wash you, make you clean; put away
the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the
fatherless, plead for the widow.
Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason
together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be
as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as
wool.
Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be
found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his
thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon
him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Matthew 3:1 In those days came John the
Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Luke 3:7 Then said he to the multitude that came
forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned
you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not
to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto
you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto
Abraham.
Luke 15:3 And he spake this parable unto them,
saying,
4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them,
doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that
which is lost, until he find it?
5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders,
rejoicing.
6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and
neighours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep
which was lost.
7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one
sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons,
which need no repentance.
Luke 15:11 And he said, A certain man had two
sons:
12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the
portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his
living.
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together,
and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance
with riotous living.
14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that
land; and he began to be in want.
15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and
he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the
swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of
my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father,
I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
19 And am no more worthy to be called they son: make me as one of
thy hired servants.
20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great
way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on
his neck, and kissed him.
21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven,
and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe,
and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat,
and be merry:
24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is
found. And they began to be merry.
25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh
to the house, he heard musick and dancing.
26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things
meant.
27 And he said unto him, Thy bother is come; and thy father hath
killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father
out, and intreated him.
29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I
serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet
thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy
living with harlots, thou has killed for him the fatted calf.
31 And he said unto him, Son, thou are ever with me, and all that I
have is thine.
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy
brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
2 Nephi 4:17 Nevertheless, notwithstanding
the great goodness of the Lord, in showing me his great and marvelous
works, my heart exclaimethn: O wretched man that I am! Yea, my heart
sorroweth because of my flesh; my soul grieveth because of mine
iniquities.
18 I am encompassed about, because of the temptations and the sins
which do so easily beset me.
19 And when I desire to rejoice, my heart groaneth because of my
sins; nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted.
20 My God hath been my support; he hath led me through mine
afflictions in the wilderness; and he hath preserved me upon the waters
of the great deep.
21 He hath filled me with his love, even unto the consuming of my
flesh.
22 He hath confounded mine enemies, unto the causing of them to
quake before me.
23 Behold, he hath heard my cry by day, and he hath given me
knowledge by visions in the nighttime.
24 And by day have I waxed bold in mighty prayer before him; yea, my
voice have I sent up on high; and angels came down and ministered unto
me.
25 And upon the wings of his Spirit hath my body been carried away
upon exceedingly high mountains. And mine eyes have beheld great
things, yea, even too great for man; therefore I was bidden that I
should not write them.
26 O then, if I have seen so great things, if the Lord in his
condescension unto the children of men hath visited men in so much
mercy, why should my heart weep and my soul linger in the valley of
sorrow, and my flesh waste away, and my strength slacken, because of
mine afflictions?
27 And why should I yield to sin, because of my flesh? Yea, why
should I give way to temptations, that the evil one have place in my
heart to destroy my peace and afflict my soul? Why am I angry because
of mine enemy?
28 Awake, my soul! No longer droop in sin. Rejoice, O my heart, and
give place no more for the enemy of my soul.
29 Do not anger again because of mine enemies. Do not slacken my
strength because of mine afflictions.
30 Rejoice, O my heart, and cry unto the Lord, and say: O Lord, I
will praise thee forever; yea, my soul will rejoice in thee, my God,
and the rock of my salvation.
31 O Lord, wilt thou redeem my soul? Wilt thou deliver me out of the
hands of mine enemies? Wilt thou make me that I may shake at the
appearance of sin?
32 May the gates of hell be shut continually before me, because that
my heart is broken and my spirit is contrite! O Lord, wilt thou not
shut the gates of thy righteousness before me, that I may walk in the
path of the low valley, that I may be strict in the plain road!
33 O Lord, wilt thou encircle me around in the robe of thy
righteousness! O Lord, wilt thou make a way for mine escape before mine
enemies! Wilt thou make my path straight before me! Wilt thou not place
a stumbing block in my way—but that thou wouldst clear my way before
me, and hedge not up my way, but the ways of mine enemy.
34 O Lord, I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee forever.
I will not put my trust in the arm of flesh; for I know that cursed is
he that putteth his trust in the arm of flesh. Yea, cursed is he that
putteth his trust in man or maketh flesh his arm.
35 Yea, I know that God will give liberally to him that asketh. Yea,
my God will give me, if I ask not amiss; therefore I will lift up my
voice unto thee; yea, I will cry unto thee, my God, the rock of my
righteousness. Behold, my voice shall forever ascend up unto thee, my
rock and mine everlastin God. Amen.
Mosiah 4:29 And finally, I cannot tell you all
the things whereby ye may commit sin; for there are divers ways and
means, even so many that I cannot number them.
30 But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves,
and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the
commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard
concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, ye
must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not.
Mosiah 5:2 And they all cried with one voice,
saying: Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us;
and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of
the Lord Omnpipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in
our hearts, that we have no more dnisposition to do evil, but to do good
continually.
Mosiah 27:24 For, said he, I have repented of my sins, and have been redeemed of the Lord; behold I am born of the Spirit.
25 And the Lord said unto me: Marvel not that all mankind, yea, men and women, all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, must be born again; yea, born of God, changed from their carnal and fallen state, to a state of righteousness, being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters;
26 And thus they become new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God.
Alma 5:7 Now this was the cause of much affliction to Alma, yea, and to many of the people whom Alma had consecrated to be teachers, and priests, and elders over the church; yea, many of them were sorely grieved for the wickedness which they saw had begun to be among their people.
8 For they saw and beheld with great sorrow that the people of the church began to be lifted up in the pride of their eyes, and to set their hearts upon riches and upon the vain things of the world, that they began to be scornful, one towards another, and they began to persecute those that did not believe according to their own will and pleasure.
9 And thus, in this eighth year of the reign of the judges, there began to be great contentions among the people of the church; yea, there were envyings, and strife, and malice, and persecutions, and pride, even to exceed the pride of those who did not belong to the church of God.
10 And thus ended the eighth year of the reign of the judges; and the wickedness of the church was a great stumbling-block to those who did not belong to the church; and thus the church began to fail in its progress.
11 And it came to pass in the commencement of the ninth year, Alma saw the wickedness of the church, and he saw also that the example of the church began to lead those who were unbelievers on from one piece of iniquity to another, thus bringing on the destruction of the people.
12 Yea, he saw great inequality among the people, some lifting themselves up with their pride, despising others, turning their backs upon the needy and the naked and those who were hungry, and those who were athirst, and those who were sick and afflicted.
Alma 5:13 And behold, he preached the word unto
your fathers, and a mighty change was also wrought in their
hearts, and they humbled themselves and put their trust in the
true and living God. And behold, they were faithful until the end;
therefore they were saved.
14 And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the church, have ye
spiritually been born of God? Have ye received his image in your
countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hears?
15 Do ye exercise faith in the redemption of him who created you? Do
you look forward with and eye of faith, and view this mortal body
raised in immortality, and this corruption raised in incorruption, to
stand before God to be judged according to the deeds which have been
done in the mortal body?
Alma 5:26 And now behold, I say unto you, my
brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt
to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?
Alma 5:32 Yea, even wo unto all ye workers of
iniquity; repent, repent, for the Lord God hath spoken it!
33 Behold, he sendeth an invitation unto all men, for the arms of
mercy are extended towards them, and he saith: Repent, and I will
receive you.
34 Yea, he saith: Come unto me and ye shall partake of the fruit of
the tree of life; yea, ye shall eat and drink of the bread and the
waters of life freely;
35 Yea, come unto me and bring forth works of righteousness, and ye
shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire—
36 For behold, the time is at hand that whosoever bringeth forth not
good fruit, or whosoever doeth not the works of righteousness, the same
have cause to wail and mourn.
Alma 5:49 And now I say unto you that this is the order after which I am called, yea, to preach unto my beloved brethren, yea, and every one that dwelleth in the land; yea, to preach unto all, both old and young, both bond and free; yea, I say unto you the aged, and also the middle aged, and the rising generation; yea, to cry unto them that they must repent and be born again.
Alma 7:14 Now I say unto you that ye must
repent, and be born again; for the Spirt saith if ye are not born again
ye cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore come and be baptized
unto repentance, that ye may be washed from your sins, that ye may have
faith on the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of the world, who is
mighty to save and to cleanse from all unrighteousness.
15 Yea, I say unto you come and fear not, and lay aside every sin,
which easily doth beset you, which doth bind you down to destruction,
yea, come and go forth, and show unto your God that ye are willing to
repent of your sins and enter into a covenant with him to keep his
commandments, and witness it unto him this day by going into the waters
of baptism.
Alma 34:32 For behold, this life is the time
for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the
day for men to perform their labors.
33 And now, as I said unto you before, as ye have had so many
winesses, therefore, I beseech of you that ye do not procrastinate the
day of your repentance until the end; for after this day of life, which
is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our
time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness wherein
there can be no labor performed.
D&C 19:15 Therefore I command you to repent—
repent, lest I smite you by the rod of my mouth, and by my wrath, and
by my anger, and your sufferings be sore—how sore you know not, how
exquisite you know not, yea, how hard to bear you know not.
16 For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they
might not suffer if they would repent;
17 But if they wold not repent they must suffer even as I;
18 Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to
tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both
body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and
shrink—
19 Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished
my preparations unto the children of men.
20 Wherefore, I command you again to repent, lest I humble you with
my almighty power; and that you confess your sins, lest you suffer
these punishments of which I have spoken, of which in the smallest,
yea, even in the least degree you have tasted at the time I withdrew my
Spirit.
D&C 58:42 Behold, he who has repented of his
sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more.
43 By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sins—behold, he
will confess them and forsake them.
